  1. Hello from a native Essex boy. My name is Charlie Kostos, I grew up at 11 Homberg Ave & worked at Raymond’s Men’s Store on Eastern Ave in Essex . I thought that Mac Donald’s opened on New Eastern ave between Stemmers Run school
& Middlesex Shopping Center back in the 60’s ?? Does anyone remember ? Thanks I remember Hollywood Park and a lot of great memories

    1. Hi Charlie!

I was born in 1940 at Old Eastern Ave. about 1/4 mile from Josenhand’s corner. My first job as a stock boy at S. S. Kresge’s variety store in Middlesex Shopping Center, between from 1956 to 1958. I’m thinking of visiting soon again for a lot of memories I had up to about 1969.

    2. There was definitely a Gino’s there. I think it was Gino’s #1. #2 was on Pulaski Highway near the City line.

      1. Definitely a Gino’s. My Dad used to work there while he was a student at Kenwood HS. C/O 1965!

    3. Hi Charlie…it was a Gino’s in front of Stemmers Run. One of the earliest fast food joints…it may have become a Mcdonalds subsequently. Nice to know you are alive and kicking. Larry Vincent, also a Raymond’s alumni.

      1. I believe I remember the Gino’s from the 70’s. I don’t think there was a McDonald’s in that spot. It’s been a Dunkin’ Donuts for decades.

    4. My sister was born in 1946 she went to the Hollywood Club every weekend she’s 9yrs older than me. She has very fun memories of it. I lived in Essex from 1974-1997

      1. This is Debra Remember Arthur Treacher fish & chips. Maria’s carry out & deli on South Marilyn used to get sliced roast beef for my husband every saturday.and Middlesex shopping center was nice & quiet back then with Pantry Pride grocery & Montgomery wards outlet later replaced by JJ Newberry small like Dept store & many other very needed shops
